In the wake of one of the more chaotic years in recent memory, many around the globe are left wondering if any good can come out of the storm. Could it be that the 2020s afford each one of us an opportunity for a hard spiritual reset? Could it be that such circumstances as these actually make way for the Almighty to reveal Himself as the God of the Second Chance?
Because we believe that our Father has resolved to redeem His people, this issue of the Pentecostal Messenger hopes to interpret current events through the lens of the second chance. In the featured articles, we recognize that pandemics don’t press pause on ministry. In fact, if anything, Impact Student Ministries and the World Missions Department offer examples of how disastrous events have only energized ministry teams to creatively establish interpersonal connection and meet felt needs. Additionally, in the subsequent stories and columns, we invite you to participate in the compassion and grace of our Lord, who extends His hands to meet us where we are. Just like the Prodigal Son, even when we hit rock bottom—whether that involves fighting devastating illness like Angela and David or battling years of addiction like Jeff Johnson—He is there to restore unto us all that was lost.
