Contending for Mission
Darrell L. Guder states in his book Missional Church that, “We live as the covenant community, a distinctive community spawned by God’s reign to show faith its tangible character in human, special form.” The Church of God is the community of God here on earth that glorifies God and shares His mission to the ends of the earth.
This is a reality around the globe. Johnson and Wu continue this thought by stating that, “The Question is not whether there will be a multicultural church. Rather, the question is whether those who have become so accustomed to seeing the gospel expressed only or primarily in terms of those dominant cultures will be able to participate in the life of the multicultural church that is already a reality” (Our Global Families, 2015).
Are you connected to the work of God that is being done around the world? Is the Global Church a reality for you? Or do you live your life separated by ethnicity or distance? I encourage you to examine your heart to see how you interact with the Global community of believers.
A great way to begin expanding your view of the Church is to subscribe to WORLD magazine. This literature publishes newsletters from PCG missionaries around the world. As you read, you will find specific projects and ministries that will open your eyes to the active Global Church around the world.
