A Global Missions Story:

At the June 2023 General Assembly, a historic change occurred for the PCG Chaplains. Prior to the General Assembly, the PCG-endorsed military and Veterans’ Administration chaplains were aligned under the World Missions Department and were directed/endorsed by Bishop M. David Reynolds, while the PCG civilian chaplains—including Department of Corrections, hospital, hospice, law enforcement, and all other instructional chaplains—were aligned under the National Missions Department and directed/endorsed by Rev. Andy Hunt. At this historic General Assembly, all chaplains both civilian and military were realigned under the  Global Ministries Department and were to be directed/endorsed by Bishop M. David Reynolds.

In large part, the desire of the General Assembly and the General Board was to pursue greater unity and provide continued training opportunities for all PCG chaplains. Around this time, a new vocational chaplain opportunity was also added to recognize certain PCG credentialed ministers who volunteer in their local community institutions as community service chaplains (CSC). These CSC’s would be invited to receive training and support alongside all our other highly qualified PCG chaplains at the Annual PCG Endorser’s Training Conference.

As 2024 unfolded, the Lord opened an exciting new work in the state of Kuwait for both our military chaplains and our newly formed community service chaplains. Since 2019, there has been a continuous PCG military chaplain presence in Kuwait. Our military chaplains not only take care of their fellow service members, but they also regularly interact with the surrounding communities and develop key relationships with governmental and community leaders. Through one of these relationships, a connection was made with an off-post spirit filled family who was hosing a weekly prayer service and scripture study. Over time, as our chaplains and the local leaders have labored in the harvest field together, that gathering has grown and matured into a fully functional local church. In2024, the church officially affiliated with the PCG, becoming our first church in Kuwait! But even more importantly, this church truly has an international reach as members from North America, South America, Africa, Central Asia, and Europe all live, work, and serve together in Kuwait.

In addition to establishing a new congregation in Kuwait, we have also established our first community service chaplain in-country. There in Kuwait, our civilian community service chaplain serves our new congregation, supports our PCG military chaplains, and sponsors on-base scripture studies and special worship services.

Chaplains Sunday Babalola and Mark Fundoh have faithfully served in Kuwait together with our CSC over the past few months, while PCG Chaplains Monique DeCandido and Marque Strickland have been serving in hotspots throughout the Middle East. During very tense and troublesome times, these chaplains have brought the peace of God and the Good News to those they served.

The PCG Chaplains Commission is honored to partner with Bishop Virgil Kincaid and the Global Missions Department to establish and support this great new work. Our PCG chaplains stand ready to support additional global ministries and missions during this Decade of Harvest. May the desert bloom before our eyes as we live together in One Mission and One Movement!
