In this issue of the Pentecostal Messenger, we hope to inspire your calling. Or better yet, we hope you will endeavor to inspire your own calling! In Paul’s letter to the Ephesian church, he challenges the believers to “walk in a manner worthy of the calling to which you have been called” (Eph. 4:1). Note, first of all, that he assumes the presence of calling. You have been called by God, and there is no question about it. But secondly, note that he implies the possibility of neglecting or ignoring the call! Dr. Wayman Ming Jr. shares in his article that “you are God’s secret weapon,” but unless one continuously and intentionally fosters his or her calling, could it be that he or she is actually walking unworthy of it? “Nothing happens by accident,” writes Dr. Josh Pennington in our featured article.
With that warning in mind, this issue will challenge you to evaluate your own discipleship journey, as well as that of your church; it will share stories of those like Aubrey Graham who are already taking the next steps in their journeys; and it will present only a few of the many opportunities within the Pentecostal Church of God—such as Global Education, Impact Appalachia, and General Assembly—that serve as onramps to help you “walk worthy of the call with which you have been called.”
